Sculpture for the Birds

At the Andes Sprouts Society Residency in the Catskills of New York, I limited my materials to what I had on the farm and the few things I had brought with me. Working in an old Dairy Barn every day, I would attempt to make sculptures out of the piles of winter wheat that had been planted as a cover crop. But each day, the mice and birds would dismantle the previous days work. This provided me with an excellent direction: if you can’t beat ‘em, join them. I made a sculpture as an offering, and by putting it on top of the red Holi powder I had randomly picked up in the city on the way there, I could record their movements and capture their activities.
