Meow Wolf

This installation is on permanent display in Meow Wolf’s Convergence Station in Denver.

The original inspiration for the body of work that the Noodleheads sprang from were a series of sculptures made from 2008 - 2011 that were investigating possible mistakes from genetic modification and cloning, and how our ideas around these technologies were all shiny and futuristic, never seeming to be focusing on something flesh and blood, but some hyperstyilized future reality - like the invention of a car. Utilizing automotive paint and markings that feel like graphically designed versions of what an animals markings would be, the Noodleheads fit right into the world of the swamp as not 100% animal and yet, not at all a machine, but some hybridized version between the two. In my mind, they exist as almost liquid, moving fluidly between planes, passing through walls, and existing within multiple spaces and times. Though the Noodlehead concept first began as something designed (perhaps even mistakenly) by humans, within the context of the swamp I see them as escapees from another reality, who have easily adapted to life within the swamp where they are surrounded by creatures that share their unique qualities, almost like the lab rats who have found the perfect home.
